Q: We're a food processor. With all the food scares out there, how can
we protect ourselves against a food recall wiping us out?
A: The question on every consumer’s mind these days is how they can protect themselves from tainted food. Conversely, the
question on every food processor’s mind these days is how they can protect themselves from being bankrupted from an FDA or
USDA inquiry or recall. In 2002, Congress passed the Bioterrorism Act that mandated that food processors must keep track
of the source of ingredients and the customer that the finished products were shipped to. However, without an automated
system, it would be very difficult for a food processor to figure out where all finished products were sold to that
contained any specific ingredient lot. Fortunately, ToolWorx provides several versions of its TWLot traceability system
that provides the Parent/Child genealogy the enables processors to quickly and easily contain the scope of a product recall.
The system uses various automated data collection technologies (like bar codes, RFID tags, machine data) to capture
ingredient lots as they are mixed in with batches and individual items. Once all the production data is linked and
stored, TWLot provides reporting tools to easily “drill down” from finished products to ingredients and back up the chain
again (“where used”) to identify any possible tainted shipments as well as quarantine any potentially bad product not yet
shipped. More info is available on our website at http://www.toolworx.com/products/twlot.asp

Cost Cutting the ToolWorx
Way
As this newsletter is being published, the economy is the worst it's been in decades. Yet,
businesses are still operating, cars are still being made, and food is still being processed and
delivered. Just because volume is reduced doesn't mean you stop production. You just have to
learn to do more with less.
ToolWorx has been providing products and services for 12 years to allow companies
to cut costs and become more efficient using auto id technologies.
Here is just a sampling of how you can use ToolWorx to cut the costs
of doing business:
- Reduce inventory and increase inventory accuracy with ToolWorx TWWarehouse
- Reduce parts shortages and increase inventory turns with ToolWorx TWTool
- Eliminate shipping / labeling errors and expedited freight costs with ToolWorx
Smart Printer applications
- Increase turnaround for invoicing and customer payments with TWMobile data collection for
delivery and service personnel
Here are some real-life examples:
- Several customers are using our Smart Printing systems to weigh count their containers to
eliminate under- and over-shipping
- A chemical manufacturer is using our TWWarehouse system to increase shipping volumes without
increasing picking and shipping personnel
- Several automotive suppliers are using our PLC Printer to generate part labels right from the
presses and then scan those labels to produce accurate shipping labels, thereby eliminating shipment
labeling and packing errors
- A printing company is using our TWTool system to increase inventory turns for their own parts as
well as their customers' consigned inventory
- An industrial sanitation company uses our TWMobile system to increase customer satisfaction and
reduce billing time and errors by replacing handwritten reports with computerized collection and
reporting
These examples do not take into account the number of customers that are using our systems for
compliance with traceability regulations as well as customer mandates. With customer volume going down
and the pressure to be perfect going up, ToolWorx can help you avoid having your profits squeezed out of
existence.
